Polished concrete

Polished concrete is a floor finish and a final surface in one — ground back, densified and sealed to a smooth, light-reflecting sheen that needs no tile, vinyl or carpet on top. It pairs an industrial, contemporary look with serious durability, which is why it has moved from warehouses into kitchens, extensions and commercial spaces.

Each floor is unique: the aggregate exposure, the level of sheen and the finish are tuned to the look you are after, from a subtle matte to a deep polish.

How it works

The concrete or suitable base is mechanically ground in stages with progressively finer diamonds, exposing as much or as little of the aggregate as you want. A densifier hardens the surface and a sealer protects it against staining — leaving a floor that is smooth, dense and easy to live with.

Living with it

A polished concrete floor is about as low-maintenance as flooring gets: no grout to scrub, no covering to wear through, just an occasional clean and re-seal. It is hard-wearing enough for commercial traffic and warm-looking enough for a family kitchen.

Common questions

Is polished concrete cold underfoot?

On its own it can feel cool, like tile or stone — but it is an excellent partner for underfloor heating, which the slab stores and spreads beautifully. Many polished concrete floors are laid over UFH for exactly that reason.

Does it stain or crack?

Sealing protects against everyday staining, and we advise on re-sealing intervals. Fine hairline cracking is part of concrete’s character and can be managed — we detail movement correctly to keep it controlled.
